A troubled mind?

I was rushing from Yew Tee to Jurong when from tuition to tuition when something struck me while waiting for the subway. Are we waiting for something at the end of this journey? Is there someone still waiting for us at the end?

Then it opened up my mind to the retreat I spent over the weekend, can desolation be also a form of depression which leads to spiritual consolation in the end, when pain is no longer pain such that emptyness feels that empty and dry inside.

Inside the person is dead but outside all the same. Can God grant respite from such desolations admist suffering and uncertainty.

I pray that within the dark night, this would pass and at the end something will be there or at least just respite.

Looking back, I realised maybe i have grown and maybe I have not grown.....

The pass few months were spent travelling overseas, USA< Hong Kong, China, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia....

All just to get a quiet silence in my heart. Maybe this dark night is indeed passing and a new dawn is about to be broken. I guess its time again to take stock in life and enter into discernment, or is discernment continous?

I have just returned from my trip Everest Base Camp, Nepal and India.

QUite unexpectedly, I felt a sense of acomplishment that I could acend to such new levels. Also, the trip has brought in some sort of new silence into my life as well..

Afterall, the himalayas is so quiet and peaceful how can one not just enjoy the silence and wonders of God's kingdom for once. The first book of the bible talks about a Garden of Eden where Adam and Eve resided till their casting out. The trek to everest base camp was indeed an Eden of sorts with minimal pollution, and wonder nature.

The trek also allowed me to explore my quiet path as I progress on with life, how much spirituality am I willing take on and to try to discern what God really wants of me in this world. Physically, mentally, socially and acadamically everything looks good on the outside.

But spiritually something still feels pretty dead and empty whereever I go. How far the reaches or how high that feeling is still there. OK....back to reality, just like those strong winds at everest base camp and the trek sucky rough uphill path, I am sure somehow there will be an answer at the end of this 'Dark Night'.

2010 poises for the first time no new resolutions apart from the usual few. 2009 was nothing spectacular to have it reviewed in retrospect. I guess I am getting older so this things no longer interest me too.

Who still reads this blog?

6 years ago this blog was created to illustrate my JC life and eventually my ns life.

4 years ago someone read my blog and I wrote in it to paint my life everyday in a hope this person reads it.

3 years ago I realised I was living a dream and a lie by then it was too late to turn back time.

2 years ago I being stubborn and hopeful still carried on with the dream.

1 year ago I tried to bring myself away from this entire thing and I failed.

Now I am standing on the edge with no where to go or no directions to take.

I have become what I also do not know. God does not really exist in this world. Maybe he does but I don't think he is.

The last few months many things ran through my head. Every morning I wake up i feel like crying.

yesterday, I watched a movie a part of it brought me to tears:

Is it possible to live our entire lives, without loving anyone at all? That’s my loneliness

at the end I feel lonely. Is this the end? I am asking myself now, I do not know.

I am a coward, but how far cowardice put away the pain and how much pain it takes before the ends hit one, I have no measure for it.

I just feel like crying, but there is no more to it.

Yet concurrently no one knows..

Hong Kong one week ago was fun, memorable and in good spirits....i made new friends nopt just local and also abroad with greater Asia.

its kinna nice talking about things and knowing from other people from other countries that things you are concern about and observe about are not just pertaining to singapore but relevant to the world throughout. SLC also made me realise how small singapore is and how 'sheltered' to some extent students are against the world....

meet up with bro dominic early in the week and he brought up something which had a profound meaning to my whole cause and emo issue. The Dark Night of the Soul a treatise written by St. John of the Cross mystic and doctor of the church.

Maybe right now i am just through my spritual journey and darkness.....but i wonder if what brother says about individuals giving up and just stopping short of the end remaining at that level......

How must i seek out the silence among the darkness,

How can i see in the dark.

I really wonder.

I am proud being Roman Catholic...ad i feel that angels and demons really gave the church good publicity. In fact i feel its a positive publicity compared to the previous movie.

It was a good movie outing and dinner.....nvr had such outings for a long long time

I guess i made not a few but rather many mistakes that I regretted maybe if i heeded that inner voice telling me not to go into it....a long time ago, it wouldn;t even have resulted in such results......

I feel that i have emotionally failed yet there are still so much to look forward to, not just the emotions.

This holidays seem exceptionally quiet and reflective, not like the last one where company was always had.

I just return from vietnam. Backpacking was pretty fun and in total i spend less then $500 for this 9 days of travelling inclusive of airfare and accomdation so it was pretty sweet. My buddies Erice and Anthony were preetty good fun too and I think we enjoyed the trip alot.

For the first time i am left with no plans and nothing to do . Hopefully there would be something meaningful this hols.

now.....its been quite awhile since i updated.

What has gotten to me that I stopped updating. I guess due to work (major factor) and also maybe I realised by now not much people read this blog anyway.

there were reasons why this blog was kept in the first place.

I was clearing up my cupboard a few days ago, just realised how a piece of item can bring back tear, memories and such an emotional feeling. Its just gross and sickening.

Nvm that I would try to cope...sometimes the feeling of pain I understand by now is not just physical but mentally as though there is so much hurt in there.

Anyway God is good I am going to HongKong in june representing CSA for some leadership conference and i look forward to the short break in saigon right after the papers..

Old and new citizens do not get equal chance in Singapore

Singapore is a meritocracy that does not distinguish between old or new citizens, said Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew.

Whether it comes to the giving out of jobs or business contracts or scholarships, whoever excels will be rewarded, he stressed yesterday at the launch of a new feature section in Chinese-language newspaper Lianhe Zaobao. (read article here)

While few can refute MM Lee’s claims that Singapore is a meritocracy, whether there is a level playing field for both old and new citizens is a different matter altogether.

Native-born Singaporeans are more than willing to compete with new citizens on an equal footing, however the increasing odds stacked against us is fuelling resentment and disgruntlement on the ground.

I fear for is future generations of Singaporeans who may struggle to achieve the same standard of living as their parents.

During my time when there were less foreigners, the starting pay of an university graduate is $S2,000. A 5 room HDB flat in Bishan cost less than S$100,000.

Nowadays, fresh graduates are finding it difficult to secure a stable, long-term job saved for those in Medicine and Law. Even engineers are being crowded out by the influx of Chinese and Indian engineers.

The salary of the Singapore worker, especially that of the lower income group has remained relatively stagnant for the last few years and being outpaced by the cost of living. Our purchasing power has been eroded to the extent that many are barely making ends meet let alone save enough for retirement.

The reservist obligation of Singapore males is a bane to us. How can we compete with new citizens who do not have to take 14 days off each year to serve national service?

There are many worthy Singaporeans who are denied a place in local universities because their grades were not deemed good enough. Yet we have many foreign students from the region who are being sponsored by our government to study in Singapore. Their tution fees are entirely covered on top of a generous monthly allowance and they are guaranteed a job upon graduation.

A place in our universities occupied by a foreigner is one denied to a local Singaporean who may have to pursue his/her tertiary education overseas or give it up completely.

Are our Singaporean students of inferior quality compared to let’s say, second-rate Chinese students? The top students in China do not come to Singapore. They are either sent to prestigious universities in the West or to the elite Chinese universities like Qinghua and Fudan.

I recognize the need for Singapore to increase its population via immigration. What I can’t reconcile with is the government’s blatant neglect for local Singaporeans. Much more can be done to develop the human capital we already have.

Singapore’s low birth rate is further exacerbated by a brain drain which is getting worse with each passing year. Can the number of new citizens made up for the loss of native Singaporeans to other countries? I seriously doubt so.

Without a core nucleus of locals to retain the unique Singapore identity, we are no different from a hotel where people come in and go. New citizens have little sense of belonging to Singapore and they can always change their citizenship again should they don’t like it here.

The United States became a great nation of what it is today through opening its doors to immigration. Many immigrants who set up their homes in the U.S. stayed there for good and few natives renounced their American citizenship.

It is pointless to dish our PRs and citizenships to foreigners like some freebies while local Singaporeans are leaving for greener pastures elsewhere at an alarming rate.

Foreigners who are contemplating to emigrate here will think: if Singapore’s governance is so open, transparent and fair as boasted by MM Lee, why are we having one of the highest emigration rates in the world?

I agree with people writing this. Even though I cannot pass a valued judgement, I feel a sense that something is not really fair for native born Singaporeans as though we are being cheated somehow of our share of something. Its up for one to decide, seeing how the world has changed especially in Singapore.

One analogy (in my opinion) is take a look at your coffeeshops (cookers, cleaners, shop assistists), 4- 5 years ago they were manned by elderly workers, part time locals and singaporeans. Where did all these people go since then their places have been taken by China PRCs. One is to wonder.

its lent.....somehow every lent i get to do something 'holy'. Last year, i was god father to zhifu my god son

this year every friday i get to lead stations of the cross in NIE...somehow took me back to those cjc days where i really wanted to do it with my friends.

things have changed and prob God led me to new people i knew....CSA is now part of my life and i find myself taking pride in whatever i do for the catholic community in NIE. I am pleased that i got someone to help me : eleanor even though we tend to have our differences sometimes.

In school, the whole of last week felt as though it flowed smoothly for the first time people who u knew since year one has actually grown to accustom to ur crap and stuff.....i must say i would miss those people who will be focusing purely on their AS 1 next year.

Vietnam backpacking with eric and his other friend are planned and booked, I am worried there is not enough planning....hopefully everything will turn out fine.

I am just feeling normal everyday.......

I wathed Benjamin Buttons abt two weeks ago with JC. Apart from the long 3 hours long movie, the movie interesting made a connection with me to really reflect live. 'some are meant to be struck by lighting 7 times, some are meant to be mothers, some are boat captains,....' this words had meaning and towards the end really got me reflecting how i would be like at the very end of my life.

Not that I would grow young just like the character, but how I would live it. Maybe i am meant to teach, meant to study, meant to be involve in para-religious organisations but how much of life is really real.

Sometimes I wished some things I did or turned towards did not make any difference to life but still it changed me.

Even so much when I am occupied and busy trying to forget I think about those times. But anyway, I guess I will have to move on and try and be happy.

I am 23 this year and already 1/4 of my life is spent (if i live till 80). WHAT difference am I going to make?? I guess God will give me guidance and strength as he has always shown this 23 years of my life.

The first week of school has been pretty boring for me...spent most of my time in hall and in NIE printing notes, buying books and slacking ard...

Fall sick on thurs and had to go to the nayang clinic to see the doc....thankfully it wasn't so expensive.

had mass on friday and i guess the teacher population in nie is getting better for catholics...defended the faith on wed when one prof asked if inviting non-cats for mass was in accordance to church discipline.

Lastly jon treated the gang to dinner and desserts yesterday as it will be his b'dae tml...how nice...

anyhow hopefully next week will be more objective...

Gloria in Excelsis Deo!

Christmas once again and this year the usual celebration of Christmas. In fact I just came back from Malcom's place having a christmas party and helping eric organise and buy stuff for it. Think a Vietnam, maybe china trip might be on the cards in May as Eric has expressed interest in the idea of going backpacking.

Christmas eve was spend in Church with the mid night mass. thad accompanied me and we watched Ip Man b4 heading down to church.....

I need to get my ministry life strighten out. SOmehow i still feel drawn back to choir and it was so edvident when i saw my choir performing during the xmas mass. I wished i was there to be part of them.....in fact i kinna missed then i nvr really said a proper good bye b4 i leave choir for reasons........how i wish that god give me strenght.

i guess God place a purpose in me to help out in CSA.

today was i felt the best mass ever in my 1 year serving as NIE rep to the Catholic students' apostolate.

The context: i was worried that no one from NIE will come for the last mass of the year. After much prayer decided maybe would be wise if i just place a simple announcement on Blackboard annoucing last mass....felt like a lone voice against all non- believers.........

The Mass: i was encouraged by the huge turn out this afternoon. 3/4 of the LT was filled and there were ppl from nie whom i nvr seen b4 plus non- catholics too....this made me realise the importance of 'manning' this catholic outpost at NIE no matter how lonesome it is.....

maybe God really will provide lah...i am just thankful the current exco is more intergrated even though at times i just wanna slack and do my own stuff the people in there are fun to work with...they remind me of CAC.....

NTU CSA may not be as big or active as NUS CSS or Fides but i am happy that the community is small coz i know everyone in there personally and yeaps......

i have been appointed to csa exco for a second term as nie representative's, I am also appointed as vice- chairman to the upcoming gk trip to the phillipines and also i am plaaning to climb a volcanoe with the rovers in dec....

I watch les choristes and it touched me.....i was moved...

partially by the teacher character in the film and also partially on how this teaching vocation can make people out of nobdies....

Sadly i just suddenly feel if God really needs me to administer again for one more term to the nie community. I sometimes wonder if i got enough strenght to be able to still carry on with this acitivity. with the adding assignments and projects i hope god will soemhow give me the strenght to carry on and do his will....

He has already given so much

before i got baptise abt 3 years ago my cathecist told me the need to constantly go for regular confessions to clear sins away.

I was OGL to zeus for the NIE foc ealier this week. Made quite a few new friends and i guess this year frieshies are much more hyper then my batch. however the camp sucks and that spoilt the mood of everyone...could see the fustration of people OGLS and freshmen at the end of the camp....so much lameness among some cocksters who just follow the same templete of the previous camp anyway its over and shall not say much.

I flew to redang last week on a Dash 7 twin propeller aircarft from seletar airport. flight there was eventful and rocky. however landing was good and from rainy singapore i arrived at bright and sunny redang

This time round me and jinhui decided to do things on redang such as trekking and canoeing which we did during the 5 days it was pretty fun and we both agreed that the coral reefs are beginning to show some sign out dying out from the last time we visited. also this time round marks my first time i swim besdie a jelly fish and almost got stung by one...pretty scary...

I went to JB on friday and we decided to take a unique route on our way back. Instead of taking bus 170 or 950 we took a train back to SG it was quite an experience and worth our time and money....watched get smart in JB, ate Nandos for dinner and i bought my teaching shirt and a pair of jeans....haha 40 bucks shorts was wat jh bought...haha i wun have bought but yea....

Anyhow practicum starts tml and i really dunnoe what to expect..good luck to everyone doing it.

Liturgically, fundamentaly christianity among different denominations could be different from each other. But is there a reason to believe that because we believe in Jesus Christ or accept the 9 creeds as the basis of mainstream christianity will allow us to become one Body?

Thats why I guess God have led me to help form an ecumenical movement at NIE to see if such a thing would really work in the local context of singaporean Christianity. I hope i would be able to lend my Catholic perpectives on the Christian religion and at the same time do something useful in reaching to a wider perpectives yet staying loya to my catholic roots.

Hopefull the school administrations takes well that FINALLY a christian ministry is going to be form at NIE. God Bless us.

reservist for the past one week was kinna slack...yet it brought back fond memories of the gas mask training and being smoked at by tear gas pellets.....sadly i was not place together with my former section and platoon mates....

when out right after reservist on friday evening to watch soccer and dinner. we had dinner at doby exchange nice place with freeflow icecream n drink...realised we haven had buffet b4.....

went out jinhui on friday. we watched prince capsian at 12.15...the movie was 2.5 hours so we sort of ended at ard 3.30am....had dinner at this beef noddles place which he intro-ed i treated him coz he was feeling kinna sad abt his results.

we spend some time walking around to the singapore flyer and stuff like tat then we went bak home. yesterday went out with justin watch gongfu panda and had lunch went to samson's place for his borthday celebration with huiting and her friends.....

Some photos i got recently that made me wondering....its been almost 10+ years of scouting and i have really lost count of it. On saturday 5 of us got invested as rover scouts. My Rover Scout name: Grazing Rhino. =) not that i wanted Serene Seahorse or Feisty Monkey as my other two options...will there be more years in Scouting? i wonder but its been memorable to be back in SJI with friends and juniors who know me and m brother.

miserable match for singapore in the FIFA world cup qualifiers....i went wif jinhui to watch at the national stadium this evening....3 goals scored in the last 15mins of the first half made us wonder was the goalkeeper sleeping or what was happening to the defence.

then the next 45 minute was so excruitiating to watch as the uber team acted and faked their way wasting time over and agin by falling down and injurying...

after the meatch we adjourned to geylang for dinner had carrot cake and the yong he 24 hrs beancurd and whatever....took the last train home...jinhui's first international live match haha..

i went out with my GESL group yesterday and they had a surprise celebration in honour of my birthday!!!! i was quite surprised and touched....

firstly, i had my first birthday blowing candles from an apple derset at swensons and next i had quite a few presents for this surprise thingy...i was also surprised that they even know what clothes i did not have and my size....haha

i am very happy and i guess the on year at NIE has enabled me to make such great friends and things really have brought us closer togehter.

its sometimes seriously almost retarded why some people would just keep taking pictures non- stop on their cameras as though they are trying to report to the entire world what they did, what they do, what they ate or who they slept with for the night.....specifically and sadly some people i have sadly come to be associated as friends by accident (which means not that i wanted to know them in the first place, more like by chance or rather introduction from my more closer friends to them). the Thailand trip started off well at first however as things progressed i remember not wanting to be part of their photo play for others to see.

Is this modern voyeurism? i beg to differ however i promised that i will not go out with the clique if there is again anymore weird or unclassified creatures or cam whoring monster lurking ard in the grp.......pity....

i am flying off to thailand for 9 days in about 4 hours time and becoz of that i would have to put my review for the year today in this post.....

2007 in retrospect.

the year started off mild with me joing de lasalle school as a form teacher which began my 6 month tenture to a class. Also, 2007 started off with me and jin hui starting off as tuition teachers to a RC centre in bukit batok.

the year begin smoothly and hopefully ends smoothly.....many things happened. both happy and sad.

however, times have to move on and with 2007 down herald 2008.

On Church

i took a break from ministry work in the later part of the year, however throughout the year was peppered wif much ministry work. In july went to sabah for mission and the openning on st paul's chapel on the hill.

zhifu became a catecumen, i left cathecacists.

On person
i did lasik in july and now enjoying a 6/6 vision and also entered nie.......this has progess without much hitches

On SJI gang
on more year has passed and jonathan have left for australia.....people are going and people are chagining....what more can i say other then just to pray for the best among ur friendship and relationship

On trips

2007 marked my most travelled year...i entered malaysia thrice, vietnam, thailand twice and also most flyign year...which after sitting on all 3 budget airline i am seriously starting to feel very sick of budget airline travel.

on special people in my life

of course what the year has to do without the presence of special people in my life...and i got to thanx my brother jinhui for having being with me as good firneds and company.....also being there for me when i need it most....the year has passed and two year of knowing you since army has never been a dull time for our brotherhood..haha, sentosa, ubin, malaysia...hopefully there will be more better times ahead of us as brothers.

new people in my life.......all are fun and all doing so many things together.....i really thank god for them....and i am looking forward to another year with them....

i am back from 5 days trip to malaysia with my bro, jinhui...haha had quite good fun for this trip and also spent some time catching up on things with my friend... also i guess we also learnt more things about each other as brothers...yea..anyway sightseeing was fun shopping was fun and genting was also very fun...guess its also the company u go wif too..haha. anyway here are some photos.

on reaching malaysia we decided to utilise the free tickets given to us by the malaysian governemnt for rides on the Eye On Malaysia....basically the world largest portable ferris wheel...took the ride and had fun plus it was free. i guess the most fun part was not sitting on tat wretced thing but more of finding our way there and back to the city area. becoz the supposed tourist attraction was located as such an off city centre area we had to track into the haertlands to find tat thing and evn got lost for awhile...but it was fun

back for less then 24 hrs....next trip is malaysia for 5 days and i am going with jinhui. we will be touring malacca, KL and genting.

bangkok was eventful, interesting, exotic and ironically wretched place.

what can i say...haha maybe its the company you go with and whatever the company you go with which can turn it into a wretched place.

whever it is, i managed to tour bangkok visted the grand temple, bought a pair of jeans and some shirts. and got myself into the bangkok spirit for at least just 1 day....haha ironically never have i felt not in another country during a holiday...

i will have to choose my trips carefully next time. but nothing outstanding i did enjoyed myself one way or another and i thank god for helping me kept my cool and giving me space when i knew i wun follow whatever wretch things the group wanted to do...haha...'FOR THE KING' (check the caps)

leaving for bangkok in abt 7 hrs time.....this trip is with jonathand, adrian chai and the gang...somehow i dun really look forward to this one trip...in fact i feel doubts within me and my low self- esteem is coming back becoz of some issues. i even sub consciously armed myself wif extra cash in case i need to buy a ticket baack to singapore...LOL

anyway whether i like it or not this trip must be undertaken. i have been friends with them for so many years, i trust that my standing and feelings wun be tat hurt during this trip. after that maybe its the make or break of this friendship with the gang.

sometime you would prefer the memories to be pleasant ones rather then unpleasant ones. I also go for the first and avoid the rest by keepng away.

busy week...ended my exams on monday yet i feel as though time passed so fast...

spent my week with gesl and completing the gesl projects...my group mates are fun people...

yesterday treated jinhui to his post (1 week) b'dae dinner at NYDC and watch a movie hitman....hmm i just bought the game today...haha. We talked quite abit on future stuff and things like that talking with him always brings a new perpective to old issues and sometime new doubts to current things haha...

anyway after that we ajourned to Timbre for a jug of Henniken heard to the band nt as good as others i have heard....hmm chatted sommore till ard 3+ the pub was closing liao then we left for home....haha 1 more week to the malaysia trip with him and i am looking forward to it....

i realised is so easy to forget him admist all your troubles and worries. which brings me back to him.

I have been facing lots of spiritual strife and i really do not know what to do.

Its so easy to forget him such that the whole year passes by b4 u realise God was he your subject of the year or as he diminished over time.

with the recent case of the alleged possession and exorcism case singapore and the court case against Novena church on charges i decided to do a little review on the matter of possession and exorcism.

i did some specific studies on demonology in the past and i came to a conclusion that the Indian lady suing novena for damages that the possession coz her mental problems and physical illness on baseless. Specifically, she did not display signs of possession which the church would need to observe and seek a second opinion such a doctor or psychiatris b4 proceeding with the ritual. also, exorcism in the roman catholic church is done by church sanctioned exorcists on the orders of the presiding ordinary or bishop. No priest may be able to do the rite without form of training and approval from his superior. Also, according to sources there are only 2 approved exorcists in Singapore which are known to be able and allow to perfom the Roman Rite.

on my part, i believe that obession is the primary source to possession. the devil has many ways and means to get to us. Primary obession is a psychological problem. but also the lure of the devil to seek us into his possession. obession of love, lust, material wanting, goals, status are all tools of which lead to obession.

For some people, the practise of occults, fortune telling, lust and desire, will lead on to temptation and obession. howvever when God see the need to save the man, the struggle for salvation betwwen good and evil will happen.

in this case obession will manifest itself into possession. the fight for the soul begins and thus cases of such happens.
